Upcoming Programs for Youth and Teens

Academics

Class Name

For students from 9th through 12th grade only. (Others interested in this program should contact the instructor for additional options.) Does math make you feel confused, overwhelmed, and physically uncomfortable? If so, math classes may not help much. In this unique program, you learn a very different set of tools for solving math problems. You learn to use your intuitions, visual and artistic skills, and your understanding of relationships to painlessly (and even joyfully!) solve simple and complex math. Intuitive math tools are extremely powerful. For people who are great at math, they are second‐nature. For the rest of us, they can be learned with a little expert guidance. Quote from one of our adult math‐phobic learners: "I can actually understand what I'm doing! How come no one ever taught me math like this before?" Drawing on math problems from standardized exams, students learn to see math in terms of relationships. They learn to draw on their intuitive, artistic, spatial, social, and kinesthetic (movement) strengths to organize math relationships and arrive at a solution. Classroom sessions are intensive and yet conducted in a relaxed way that encourages students to enjoy what they are doing. We incorporate drawing (graphs, sketches, charts), physical layout, and social interaction to represent math information. Includes two hours of time outside of class by phone with Mr. Cutts, which cannot include homework problems. Students may repeat the program one time at a 50% discount. NOTE: While this is not an ACT/SAT prep class, we work on over a hundred actual ACT questions. Students will exit the class with advanced strategies for a superior ACT or SAT score. Also, we do not work on students' math homework. For students from 9th through 12th grade only. (Others interested in this program should contact the instructor for additional options.) NOTE: Students must buy the Official ACT Prep Guide. To get the correct current edition, refer to the website http://www.cuttsreviews.com/ContEd/math/'' target=''_blank. Students should bring this book, paper, and writing implements to all classes, including the first.
