Music & Dance

Learn to play a musical instrument, or expand your current musical skills in our fun classes. We offer guitar classes, along with other instruments such as harp, dulcimer and piano. All skill levels are welcome. You can also work on your voice skills by joining our singing and choir classes in both jazz and traditional styles.  We also offer a fun range of dance classes for the beginner to the advanced student. Join us and learn a new step or come and improve your skills. Some of our topics include Country Western, Argentine Tango and Ballroom Dancing. Enjoy Rockabilly Swing, Honky Tonk Style Country Swing and many more. Quit being a wallflower and get out on the dance floor!

Music - Upcoming Classes

Class Name

This course explores the art, challenges and the fun of improvising jazz on the guitar. It includes learning tunes and related scales, arpeggios, chord forms and comping. Students will also study phrasing examples which express the language of jazz as well as techniques to facilitate these ideas and ear training. For hands on experience, a portion of class time will be spent on jamming on the material learned in class. Questions in class are encouraged. Please bring an 'acoustic' guitar, a pad and pencil. This popular class gives a comprehensive first hand understanding of the main ingredients of Latin Jazz rhythms and genres such as bossa nova, salsa and samba. Materials for the class range from compositions of traditional well‐known Latin Jazz artists to lesser known contemporary composers and musicians. This class will explore the basic elements of singing a song; tempo, groove, style, form and arrangement. We'll work on strengthening the voice and polishing your performance. We will choose songs from the jazz standard repertoire and be accompanied by a professional musician in our recital. This is a course for the beginning guitarist. Its objective is to get the students playing quickly, by emphasizing chords and right‐hand strumming and figure picking patterns. The basic fundamentals of music, including note reading, rhythm, and harmonic structure will also be covered. Careful attention is given to proper playing technique. The students must bring a playable acoustic guitar to every class meeting. NOTE: A materials fee of $20 is payable to the instructor at first class meeting to cover text and teaching materials.

The class will be centered on the rhythm guitar an its role in Rock and Roll, folk, Country and Pop genres. We will be building on the Chord vocabulary learned from the previous class and there will be some note reading, but the class will mostly focus on learning the strum patterns and chords for any song that would be available from multiple sources such as from Songbooks, Lead Sheets, online tabs and chords. The class will be using the Hal Leonard Guitar Method I book, but students are encouraged to learn their favorite songs. All types of guitars and genres are accepted in this class. Taking Guitar: Beginning is not required, but knowledge of chords (at least in the keys of C and G) and some note reading skills are required. Students without basic theory fundamentals or the ability to read music notation must be open to initially catching up/learning those basics taught in Guitar: Beginning, as those skills wiill be utilized in Guitar: Beginning II. Note: A Materials Fee of $15 is payable to the instructor at the beginning of the first class session.

The instructor, a professional musician, has developed a unique teaching method designed for those who can't carry a tune or have other singing difficulties. You must attend all four classes. Want to sing with more confidence and control? If you can carry a tune, join this vocals class to practice singing solo and as a group with a certified singing teacher. You'll pick up easy‐to‐learn vocal techniques combined with fun performance practice. You'll also work with professional music equipment. Dance - Upcoming Classes

Class Name

Have FUN, learn how to dance and meet people in a friendly, non‐intimidating environment. Learn basic steps and beyond, or update what you already know of the most popular western dances done at local night clubs. Dances include Swing, 2‐Step, Waltz, and Night Club (a slow romantic dance!). Enjoy dance outings to local dance venues (some for under 21) to practice with fellow students. No experience or partner required‐singles and couples welcome. Students are encouraged to rotate in class‐ but optional. We will try to maintain an even ratio of leaders and followers. NOTE: $70 per couple when enrolling together. $45 per individual.

This program is designed for anyone who wants to start their first steps in Tango. It is designed for the student to go slowly entering the dance, breaking cultural and personal barriers that may separate one from the development of the dance. In this month and a half you will work with the communication of the body and the relationship with your dance partner, the awareness of the music and space. There will be an emphasis on posture and embrace, which are essential for synchronization in the dance.
