As the second wife of King John of England, Queen Isabella of Angoulême remains largely overshadowed in popular imagination by John's mother, the queen-duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine. Nevertheless, like her mother-in-law, during her own life, Isabella had earned a scandalous reputation, ''more Jezebel than Isabel,'' accused of sorcery, incest and harlotry. Historians and novelists have portrayed her as a bad mother, a termagant, an ambitious and reckless schemer and a poisoner, among others, while acknowledging her extraordinary beauty. This presentation looks at the impact of Isabella's two marriages on the political landscape of 13th century England and France

As a student of American history I have often marveled at the good fortune that our country has had regarding traversing momentous times in our existence. What if Washington had allowed his sick and exhausted troops, in 1782, to march on Philadelphia (like they wanted to do) and take over the government because they hadn't been paid in years? What if John Adams and not Thomas Jefferson had been president when the opportunity to purchase Louisiana from Napoleon came along? What if someone other than Abraham Lincoln was president during the Civil War? What if Woodrow Wilson wasn't president at the end of World War I when the opportunity for world peace was at hand? What if FDR wasn't president when our greatest national economic crisis burst upon the scene? These are just some of the points I would discuss in class.

According to historian David Wooton, "For 2,400 years patients have believed that doctors were doing good; for 2,300 years they were wrong.? How wrong? Crocodile dung for contraception; invisible worms causing tooth decay; mashed mouse poultices; ground glass for stomach ailments; lobotomies on demand. Clutch your Medicare card gratefully and join us for a visit to the doctor that you hope never happens. Feeling a little hysterical about this class? That's because you're female and your uterus keeps wandering through your body.

Wait a minute! Wasn't it an ax and 41? Not so. Like most of the information about the 1892 murder, the popular rhyme got it wrong. In an era when murders by the "weaker sex? were rare, the trial - and acquittal - of Lizzie Borden made her a media sensation. Today, the case remains unsolved. Join us in the Borden home in Fall River, Massachusetts on the morning of August 4 where two bodies lay in pools of congealed blood. You decide if Lizzie killed her parents.

The real measure of our lives is in what we learn from life experiences, the values we live by and our hopes for the future of our family and friends. Join us as we work together to write our life statements: either for yourself as a gift for next generations or as a creation of a life statement on behalf of someone (to honor the memory of a parent or other family member). In this course, we will examine a variety of different published legacies and using templates, create your very own ''blueprint for living.''

Blogging is a way to build your writing skills, express your ideas and even build a book-length manuscript while creating an audience. The class will explore all types of blogging, from poetry to how-to instruction, from spirituality to memoir. Learn how to choose free blogging platforms, how to determine the length and frequency of your blogs and how to build an audience. The class will also show how you can use a blog to create the backbone of a book, just as Julie Powell did to create her bestseller, Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen, which went on to become a major movie. Anything is possible with a blog.

Jackalopes aren't real... are they? And vinegaroons look like they should guard the gates to Hell... but do they bite? Many of us have relocated from other parts of the country to this lovely region of New Mexico. The critters one finds here may be very different from those we've left behind. We'll discuss some of the natural history, biology and toxicology associated with the animals of our new environment. A danger better understood is a danger better avoided! The discussion will cover many of the critters found around New Mexico that might show up in our yards, homes or be found on hikes. We'll discuss the dangerous, not so dangerous and not dangerous (hopefully!), to reduce any fears and increase interest in the biodiversity of our new home. Your presenter is a boarded toxicologist, who for 33 years was the managing director of one of the nation's certified regional poison control centers. His area of expertise within the vast field of toxicology, was and remains, those poisons to be found in Nature.
