No matter your level of experience, UNM Continuing Education offers classes that can help you take advantage of yoga's many benefits. This class is designed for all levels ‐ from the experienced beginner and level I students looking to build their practice, as well as the intermediate student of yoga. Each class weaves together yoga, mindfulness and breath work in creative sequences and more variations of postures are introduced. A fusion of Hatha ,Vinyasa and Power yoga styles. Begins with a mindful intention and closes with a short guided meditation. Some days Iyenger and restorative elements are added to the class flow.

All poses are offered and taught with modifications to suit individual bodies and needs. Essential teachings for ''living your yoga'' are shared. This unique class is a great way to segue into yoga or maintain your practice through gentle yet therapeutic, mindful movement and breath. This is the perfect antidote for weak, weary backs. This yoga class focuses on three movement categories to improve back health. Strengthening and extending the back muscles will enhance alignment and stability. Gentle twists and supported forward bends will lengthen shortened muscles. And mobilizing the shoulder girdle and softening around the heart will help you breath more deeply and reduce tension. For beginning and intermediate students who have some understanding of the alignment concepts, relevant anatomy, and basic vocabulary of yoga, this class expands the exploration of pre‐asana and classical yoga asanas, introducing some intermediate asana and refinement of alignment. Emphasis is on continuing to develop balance between strength and flexibility, muscular engagement, and relaxation. Students will experiment with more advanced poses which could include backbends and inversions. Poses are typically held longer and more variations of postures are introduced. In this class, breath awareness practices (pranayama) are guided to educate the conscious regulation of the nervous system. Students can begin to learn the signs of sympathetic dominance of the nervous system and how to self‐regulate the nervous system to parasympathetic dominance (rest and calm).
