Beginner Series

The Beginner Series classes are very short and affordable introductory classes in Digital Arts topics. This series is designed for those who are interested in Digital Arts, but may be short on time or budget. The Beginner Series classes may be applied to a certificate program with the approval of the program supervisor. If you decide to pursue a certificate or further your Digital Arts training.

Beginners Series Classes

Class Name

Become acquainted with fundamental computer terminology and the Mac in a relaxed, easy-paced setting. Work with the Mac's basic functions by learning about startup and shutdown procedures, keyboard and mouse operation, and other computer functions specific to the Mac. Get a brief introduction to some of the Mac's built-in applications for composing letters, reading PDF files, sending emails and surfing the Internet. This course is for the computer novice. Note: See the Course Skills Assessment for this class on our website at digitalart.unm.edu. Prerequisite: None.

One definition for photographic composition is simple: the pleasing selection and arrangement of subjects within the picture area. In general, good pictures result from careful attention to some basic elements of composition together with appropriate lighting and an interesting subject. Become familiar with the practical applications of the key elements of composition to improve your photography: point of interest, simplicity, contrast, balance, framing, viewpoint, movement, diagonals and rule of thirds. Prerequisite: None.

Start with a name, develop the character's personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own game. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching.
