Final Cut Pro, Premiere and AVID provide the film and video editor with an amazing array of tools for an edited piece. What the editor has to provide is the ins and outs of how to put together a good edit - the art and craft of storytelling. Be it a Feature movie, a Documentary, or a Commercial, the editor needs an eye and an ear for making an edit successful. In this course we look at the essentials of Editing: storytelling, timing, rhythm, and dramatic structure. We look at examples, and apply hands on exercises to introduce you to these indispensable tools. This course will complement in an ideal way classes taken for Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro. Prerequisite: 52008 or 54101/11 or equivalent experience.

All Digital Arts programs are designed to prepare students for an internship, entry-level employment or business.

Half-time to full-time students should be able to complete one master certificate in two semesters or fewer. A schedule of 12 or more classes in a semester is full-time. Six classes is half-time.

About the Multimedia Curriculum

Our Multimedia certificates allow you to combine skills from different areas. Combine graphic design with web design, or computer illustration, photographs and video with moving graphics in the creation of motion graphics. Enhance your online training knowledge by learning how to develop effective instructional media strategies. Or, in conjunction with the Online Instructor certificate, gain an understanding of how adults learn in order to facilitate the planning and development of content that will enhance the learning process. The Multimedia certificates may be customized for those of you with prior experience or with particular goals in mind.

Basic design principles are covered in course 55101 Graphic Design I. This class provides the foundation for all other Graphic Design courses. Basic understanding of computer graphics software, including an overview of raster and vector graphics, is covered in 56101 Computer Graphics: Raster and Vector Art. This class is a prerequisite to all other computer graphics classes. We recommend taking these two classes early in your curriculum.

Digital Arts Package

Purchase SIX (6) courses within Digital Arts (course numbers between 54000 and 59999) at the same time and receive 15% off your purchase price. Inquire at time of registration. Some restrictions may apply.

Tuition Assistance

Tuition Assistance may be available if you are unemployed, a veteran or veteran’s spouse, or a person with a disability. Other options include education loans. For more funding options, and contact information, please visit our Loans and Financial Aid page.
