Videography and Filmmaking - Upcoming Classes

Class Name

Expand your cinematography skills by applying advanced techniques, like the Pros on a film set. The emphasis is on understanding the creative use of the equipment, and hands‐on training. The course will also provide an overview of the latest digital cameras from a simple Canon DLSR to RED or ARRI cameras. We cover how different shot types are used to compose a scene, basic and advanced lighting setups, and advanced audio recording setups and the selective use of microphones. You develop a deeper understanding of what shooting for editing truly means. We look at the work of master cinematographers and how it can relate to your own practice. The course ends with a look at color grading as the last step of the shooting process. Note: Bring your film/video camera or DSLR, and the manual.

This class is a hands‐on experience using the tools and practices of modern cinema. The class will be taught at uPublic.tv in Albuquerque. Students will learn how to rig and move a cinema camera, creatively control light, get good audio on location and deal with the digital workflow used by most modern cinema cameras. Learn techniques to get that "film look" with budgets from high to zero. You will also learn on‐set terminology and practices essential to successful production. You will leave the class with skills immediately usable for a variety of projects. The instructor is Chris Paul, a working professional with 33 years of experience.

Producing 101 is an introduction to the work of a film producer. It starts with a question that is often asked: So, what does a producer actually do? Film producers do many different things from hiring crew to forging contracts to securing equipment for a shoot. We cover Budgeting, Scheduling and Negotiating, learn about contracts, and look at the role of the producer as a hiring manager. Producers also have an important role in bringing a script from the page to the screen, we cover breaking down a script and translating it into a schedule and a budget. The course provides real world tools to get you started in film production.
