Career Step is a Leader in online allied health education and job training, offering preparation for national certification & employment. Founded in 1992, Career Step has trained over 60,000 students.

You’ll receive career focused education and job training that includes real world practicum and software used in the workplace from instructors with industry experience and certifications. Career Step courses are self-paced and vary in cost from $3,000-$4,000 depending upon the program.

Class Name

The Medical Coding and Billing online program prepares students to become certified in medical coding and billing and start their new career today. This is an online program that is self‐paced and one can register at any time. Topics studied include healthcare information management, reimbursement methodologies, biomedical sciences, and current code sets, including ICD‐10, CPT, and HCPCS. Students practice their coding skills in an extensive practical section to gain valuable hands‐on experience before graduation. In addition to one‐on‐one support from experienced instructors during training and access to personalized graduate support, students receive e‐books, industry codebooks and access to online references. The program prepares one to sit for five different national certifications: CCA, CCS, and CCS‐P credentials (AHIMA), CPC or COC credentials (AAPC). Program is 445 hours total. 390 hours are required to graduate. 55 hours in ICD coding and inpatient practicum are option. It is highly advised to complete the entire 445 hours. Course is 1 year access. Receive a complimentary one‐year AHIMA student membership and voucher for one exam and laptop.

Approved by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), the Medical Transcription Editor program focuses on teaching the skills needed to work as a medical transcriptionist and medical transcription editor. Students study medical terminology, anatomy, healthcare documentation, and editing theory and technique as well as developing and practicing their typing and listening skills on hundreds of authentic, employer‐provided dictations from a variety of specialties. In addition to one‐on‐one instructor support and personalized graduate support, Enrollment includes ten e‐books, a transcription foot pedal, AHDI Book of Style e‐book, and a voucher to take the RHDS exam.

The Medical Assistant program is designed to prepare students to earn the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential after graduation. Curriculum includes interactive simulations and covers healthcare reimbursement, basic anatomy, clinical patient care, EKG testing, and phlebotomy. Enrollment includes ebooks, laptop and a voucher to take the CCMA exam after graduation.

Approved by the National Healthcareer Association, the Medical Administrative Assistant with EHR program prepares students for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) credentials. Students learn Microsoft Office basics, healthcare documentation and reimbursement, and medical office management topics such as practice finances and standard office procedures. The interactive online curriculum also includes over 20 hours of training on the government‐certified ezEMRx EHR software. In addition to one‐on‐one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive e‐books and vouchers for the CMAA and CHERS exams. NOTE: This course is currently eligible for promotional laptop with enrollment.

The Pharmacy Technician program prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Exam. Students study pharmacology, pharmaceutical calculations, nonsterile compounding, and pharmacy law, regulations, and standards as well as topics specific to working in retail or institutional pharmacies. During the training, students have the opportunity to participate in an on‐site externship at a local Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, or independent pharmacy. In addition to one‐on‐one support from experienced instructors throughout the course and access to personalized graduate support after graduation, students receive e‐books, a laptop, a drug reference handbook, and a PTCB Exam voucher. The course, currently pending ASHP accreditation, connects students with an externship partner so they can fulfill graduation requirements. In addition to one‐on‐one instructor support, students will receive a lab kit, ebooks, and an exam voucher. NOTE: This is a self‐paced online course. You may start at any time.

The Physical Therapy Aide program is designed to prepare students to pass the Certified Physical Therapy Aide Specialist (CPTAS) exam after graduation.
