Try a Crafts & Hobbies class with us and to learn how to make your own keepsake item. Through hands on learning from our professional instructors you will develop the basic skills to create your own home-made treasures. Our affordable classes provide a lifetime of rewarding hobbies. Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a lace from a series of knots and loops. Using extra‐large thread, designed just for tatting, you will learn this skill that has been practiced by queens and commoners alike. You will learn to master the double stitch and learn to read patterns and diagrams. You will make several items from patterns provided by the instructor. The Book Arts encompass the worlds of bookbinding, artists' books, fine and design binding and sculptural books. In this introductory class you will learn how to construct 6‐8 basic book structures that are 1) folded and glued, 2) sewn, and 3) non‐traditional. Learn the basic techniques and discover which are best for expressing yourself artistically in a book format. Instructor will demo the techniques and students will make each structure themselves. Designed for people with no experience in book structures. Students need to bring to class: bonefolder, scissors, glue brush, Xacto knife, steel ruler, awl, and cutting mat. A materials fee of $36, payable to the instructor at the first class, includes text paper and decorative paper, book board, needle, waxed linen thread, beeswax and glue for all 3 sessions.

This course is designed to acquaint you with the tools, terms and techniques of basic basket weaving, an ancient art form practiced by many cultures throughout the ages and still being enjoyed today. For this course, you need to bring a tape measure or ruler, pencil, utility scissors or reed cutters, large towel, mat knife, and a pan 10 inches in diameter which hold a water depth of 8 inches. Class will break for a 1 hour lunch. Note: A $35 materials fee will be collected at the beginning of class. The Buttonhole Book has one or more cutouts in the spine to create ''windows'' that show the stitched text block behind. Decorative papers wrap around each text section to create visual interest. The signatures are attached to the cover with stitches that wrap around each end of the spine to enhance the cover. The Buttonhole Book offers many possibilities for variety and embellishment. Instructor will explain, demo, teach and guide you. A $12 materials fee is payable to the instructor at first class. Sashiko is a form of embroidery from Japan that was used by the working class as far back as the 16th century. Today it has evolved into a beautiful and decorative art form. The white thread on an indigo blue background gives it a distinctive look. It is made using large thread and big stitches that are very easy to work and see. Students will make a square of stitchery that can be made into a pillow or appliqued onto something else such as a tote bag.
