Health and Fitness classes at UNM Continuing Education help you open the door to better health. Our well-trained instructors have experience working with people of all ages and physical ability. We offer classes in a variety of exercise and fitness topics including, yoga, Pilates, dance, swimming, weight lifting, and more. Whether you are looking to drop pounds, or work on strength training, we offer classes that will fit your needs. Like all of our classes, the schedules are convenient and the classes are affordable; and you can try something new without a long-term contract.

Pilates - Upcoming Classes

Journey deep within with restorative yoga poses to ease the body, breath‐work to calm the mind, and deep relaxation to melt away stress. This is the plan for this afternoon of deep rest. You will learn a simple sequence of yoga postures and breathing techniques that you can practice nightly, easing you into a restful night of sweet dreams. Yoga nidra guided meditation will complete the journey. Restful sleep is our birthright. You can easily make it possible for every organ of your body to enjoy deep rest, leading to vitality and resilience during your waking hours.

Note: This course is scheduled in the catalog for June 10 as Yoga: Headaches No More. The correct date is July 28 and will combine Headaches No More with Insomnia No More.

Strength and Cardio - Upcoming Classes

Class Name

Building strength is a great way to get more energy and tap into the fountain of youth whatever your current fitness state! In this course, strength, core and cardio exercises are combined in circuits, a proven way to maximize fitness and keep your body and mind from getting complacent. You'll practice exercises for muscular endurance, definition and power – and don't worry, there are always options! Classes are held in a private studio and kept small so you get personalized attention without the distractions of a big gym. All levels are welcome, with an emphasis on combining fitness and fun.

In this workshop you will learn a simple yet very effective yogic breathing techniques and postures that effect the functioning of your pancreas, stimulating and rejuvenating its capacity to produce insulin. These postures massage, tone, squeeze and stimulate the nerves and the circulatory system which in turn helps in controlling diabetes. These poses help to balance the endocrine system. Please join Zoreh for a healing afternoon of yoga asana, breath, meditation and deep rest, as she will share the sequence of postures that have helped reverse her diagnosis of pre‐diabetes for the last five years, taking away the many unbearable symptoms. Today she is enjoying the freedom of vibrant health without any medications. Come as your are, no prior experience in yoga is needed, just your desire for health and well being is needed.

Students in the 200 hour Teacher Training Program embark on a journey deeper into their practice and themselves. For many, the agreement to join the program marks the first time the student accepts a more rigorous schedule of study and a more comprehensive definition of the practice. From this new challenge, students have the opportunity to discover more subtle, interior layers of themselves. Students will be given a classical yogic framework with which to reevaluate habits and patterns in mind and body as to their relevance in the present. This course is relevant to anyone wishing a deeper understanding of the system of yoga, even if teaching is not a goal.
