This is the first class I have taught using Eleanor Burns book. The featured block is a 28'' Feathered Star. The Feathered Star is typically a difficult block. This one isn't. Eleanor's directions are spot on using triangle pieced squares, strip pieced diamonds and no set in seams. The 5 stars used in this quilt are traditional‐ with a twist. You will learn new and exciting ways to make the stars. She also shows how to machine quilt the quilt using a conventional sewing machine. This is for the Confident Beginner or Intermediate quilter who wants a challenge. Skills needed for this class: Use a rotary cutter and ruler with accuracy, sew an accurate 1/4'' seam, press not iron, and, read and understand quilting vocabulary. Eleanor provides three different sized quilts‐from a wall hanging to a twin bed size. You can decide the size you want to make. Sample and Supply Sheets are available at the Quilt Works. You can e‐mail me with any questions at CarolBell99@msn.com [put ''Quilting 102'' in the subject line.]

Sashiko is a form of embroidery from Japan that was used by the working class as far back as the 16th century. Today it has evolved into a beautiful and decorative art form. The white thread on an indigo blue background gives it a distinctive look. It is made using large thread and big stitches that are very easy to work and see. Students will make a square of stitchery that can be made into a pillow or appliqued onto something else such as a tote bag.
