Health and Fitness classes at UNM Continuing Education help you open the door to better health. Our well-trained instructors have experience working with people of all ages and physical ability. We offer classes in a variety of exercise and fitness topics including, yoga, Pilates, dance, swimming, weight lifting, and more. Whether you are looking to drop pounds, or work on strength training, we offer classes that will fit your needs. Like all of our classes, the schedules are convenient and the classes are affordable; and you can try something new without a long-term contract.

Join us for an afternoon of self‐empowerment, self‐healing, and deep rest. This workshop will provide you with easy, practical tools to identify the triggers which cause you misery and rob you of the quality of life you deserve. You will learn step by step how to free up blocked energy, manipulating the energy gates related to head, neck, shoulders, and back. Correct alignment, a sequence of deeply relaxing restorative poses, and the help of the breath will bring calmness, dissolving and reducing inflammation and irritation of the nerve endings. This amazing sequence reduces the frequency and intensity of headaches and often gets rid of the pain altogether when you practice it at the very first sign of headache. This sequence has helped many with insomnia as well, bringing a state of relaxation that leads you to deep and peaceful sleep. No prior experience in yoga is needed. Please bring one hand towel, one wash cloth, and one pair of knee‐high socks. All other props and the sequence are provided for you.

Restorative yoga cultivates a state of deep relaxation by combining restful yoga poses with attention to the breath. Restorative yoga also features a slower pace, a less complex sequence of poses, and a variety of props (provided by the studio) in order to spend more time in each pose with less muscular exertion. This two‐week course will provide information on the history of Curanderismo (the art of Mexican Folk Healing) in the Southwest and Mexico. Exploring an integrative approach to medicine and featuring demonstrations that incorporate Curanderismo with various traditional and holistic health techniques, such as: the creation of a sacred space; herbs and rituals; ceremonial use of the sweat lodge (temazcal); energetic cleansings (limpias); herbal smoke; medicine of the drum; Mayan abdominal massage; fire cupping (ventosas); juice therapy (jugo terapia); death and healing; intestinal blockage (empacho); laugh therapy (risa terapia); shawl alignments (manteadas); and Mayan acupuncture. This course will use instructors who are researchers in the field, healers, and health practitioners, from UNM, Mexico, the Southwest, and the Albuquerque community.
