Health and Fitness classes at UNM Continuing Education help you open the door to better health. Our well-trained instructors have experience working with people of all ages and physical ability. We offer classes in a variety of exercise and fitness topics including, yoga, Pilates, dance, swimming, weight lifting, and more. Whether you are looking to drop pounds, or work on strength training, we offer classes that will fit your needs. Like all of our classes, the schedules are convenient and the classes are affordable; and you can try something new without a long-term contract.

Deep relaxation, meditation, and breath awareness will help bring calm to your being and offer support and ease to your liver. Not only will we explore yoga poses that can greatly benefit people with wombs–practicing yoga can definitely help during menstruation and at other points in the ovulation cycle–we'll also dive deep into the science behind the fertility awareness method, which is not only a really effective hormone‐free method of birth control, it's also a great way to learn about your body and get a valuable glimpse into your health. In this workshop you will learn a simple yet very effective yogic breathing techniques and postures that effect the functioning of your pancreas, stimulating and rejuvenating its capacity to produce insulin. These postures massage, tone, squeeze and stimulate the nerves and the circulatory system which in turn helps in controlling diabetes. These poses help to balance the endocrine system. Please join Zoreh for a healing afternoon of yoga asana, breath, meditation and deep rest, as she will share the sequence of postures that have helped reverse her diagnosis of pre‐diabetes for the last five years, taking away the many unbearable symptoms. Join us for an exciting trip to Troncones, a tranquil and beautiful beach with the warm clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. Troncones is located 20 miles from the fabulous sleepy fishing village of Zihuatanejo. We will be staying at Hacienda Eden (www.edenmex.com), a beach hacienda with tastefully decorated oceanfront rooms, each with a private bath. Delicious seafood and vegetarian entrees will be served by a gourmet professional chef. Two yoga classes will be offered each day for all levels and will include asana (yoga poses), pranayama (breathwork), meditation, Nada Yoga (Yoga of Sound) and Yoga Nidra (Deep Relaxation). There will be ample opportunities for rest and quiet time, or to partake in many activities such as swimming and bird watching. Also, eco‐tours with special hikes to caves, a swimming hole, and a kayaking adventure on a nearby lagoon are available. Horseback riding, massage, shopping trips to Ziwa, snorkeling at the beautiful Ixtapa Island, and deep sea fishing are other optional activities.

Reiki is a simple Japanese folk art. Anyone can use Reiki for self and others. It can relieve stress, insomnia, fatigue and pain and accelerate healing of body, mind and spirit. In this introductory class you learn about Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, its history, levels of training and practical applications. You can experience the Reiki touch, have your questions answered, and develop a basis for deciding whether or not to pursue Reiki treatment or training.

Dr. Pamela Cornish, NP, DOM, struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for 15 years, sciatica for 5 months, and a herniated disc for 3 years. Dr. Cornish is her name and backs are her game! By applying the techniques taught in this class, she has been free of the above since 1986, 1989 and 1994, respectively. Learn helpful tips for sitting, standing, working and sleeping to prevent developing back pain. If you already have back pain, and would like to explore ideas and tools in natural medicine before resorting to drugs and/or surgery, please join us for a morning of learning. You would be living in a toxic waste dump! This can happen to your digestive system. Every day we are assaulted by seven physical insults to our bodies, all of which deleteriously affect our large intestines. Learn the anatomy of your colon, as well as what you can do to improve your digestion. Health and vitality have their roots in the colon.
