Poetry Writing Workshop: Prompts and CircumstancesFind inspiration for new poems in the unexpected: group prompts, odd prompts, timed prompts, political prompts, ekphrastic prompts. Write outside of your comfort zone. One or more poetry prompts will be introduced each week to energize your writing. Writing for MagazinesThis course seeks to refine journalistic writing skills for magazine features and subgenres, and will follow the premise that good magazine writers are storytellers as much as they are purveyors of facts. The course will explore creative writing techniques unique to magazine nonfiction and will focus on writing, editing, and research skills in preparation for submitting articles for publication to a magazine. In addition to the magazine feature, this class will also address the genres of profiles, reviews, commentaries, how‐tos, and destination/travel pieces.
