Spontaneous co-writing is a technique developed by our instructor to engage your creative mind through stream of consciousness writing, initiated by the prompt of a word. In this class you will use paper and pen to record your thoughts, memories and analysis of those thoughts based on the chosen word. Through reading these thoughts out loud we become our own authority. Scribbling with pen and paper and listening for what others write will take you on a journey of new learning.

''Imitation, conscious imitation, is one of the great methods, perhaps the method of learning to write.'' - Theodor Roethke In this class we will review and consciously imitate the style, rhythm, and structure of a different poem each week. Student's poems will be critiqued in class. Students will become more adept a close reading, as well as identifying and utilizing craft elements in their own work.
