Getting Started with Computers / IT at UNMCE

Make an appointment for advisement with the program supervisor, stop by to see our facility, or just register to get started. You may register by phone, fax, or in person. See our 6 Easy Ways to Register page for more registration information. In addition, some of the information below may be helpful to you.

Prerequisites and Course Options

The prerequisites listed with the course descriptions are intended to prepare you for the next course. If you have prior experience with a topic, you may place yourself in the most appropriate class. Suggested courses are not a required prerequisite, but may enhance comprehension of the topic. Prerequisites are not included in the certificate hours.

Online Courses

Online courses are available in many Computer / IT topics, offered in partnership with Ed2Go and UGotClass. Because our online offerings are not exact equivalents to our local classes, they may not substitute for local classes when pursuing a certificate. For current online class options, please see the Online tab of our Computers / IT Classes & Certificates page.

Computer Labs

Most of our  computer courses are held in one of our dual-platform labs. For optimum employment opportunities, certificate students are encouraged to become familiar with and use both Mac and Windows platforms during class time.

Tuition Assistance

Funding is available for many of our certificate programs through special funding programs or employer tuition assistance. UNM employees may use their Tuition Remission benefit for all Digital Arts classes. Contact the program supervisor early in the process to complete any required paperwork for financial aid. Visit our Loans & Financial Aid page for more information.

Attendance and Grades

One hundred percent attendance is required to receive a passing grade for any class. If you must miss a class session due to an emergency, you may request to make up the class by emailing the program supervisor within two weeks of the missed class. You will then be contacted regarding make-up options.

All classes at UNM Continuing Education are non-degree and non-credit. Classes are Pass/Incomplete; these grades are recorded on your UNM Continuing Education transcript.

Waiting Lists and Changes to the Schedule

If a class you want is full, be sure to add your name to the waiting list. If enough people are interested, we may open another section. Register early to ensure a seat. Occasionally the dates and times of a class will change.

Refunds and Discounts

Your tuition, minus a $15 cancellation fee per non-credit class, will be refunded if you provide a written request three business days prior to the first scheduled class. This policy applies to all registrations, regardless of the payment method. Phone requests will not be accepted. Call the registration office at (505) 277-0077 to ask about current discounts.
