Photo 1 covers the basics of successfully taking good photos. But what makes a good photo? The class starts with a focus on the exposure triangle, which consists of aperture, shutter speed and ISO, and how using these settings correctly makes for exact exposure, but also opens a world of creative control over your images. It then covers depth of field, white balance, and the basic elements of photographic composition. We move from using natural light to an introduction of studio lighting. Reviewing the work of master photographers gives creative input to your own practice. Bring your digital camera and extra batteries to class.

The idea of synchronous sound, like color imagery, was always a desire in film. With the premiere of The Jazz Singer, in 1927, this became both a reality and a necessity. Since then, the industry has strived for the best possible recording of the actors on‐set. The Production Audio Mixer (Recordist) and team have become essential in all types of filmmaking, from Hollywood and TV to documentaries and no‐budget indies. New technology has made this process easier, but a thorough knowledge of how and why to apply certain techniques is essential. This course introduces best practices theory and practical application for on‐set audio recording, through practical exercises utilizing some of the newest audio technology.
