EKG Technician

BECOME AN EKG TECHNICIAN

The need for skilled EKG professionals in hospitals, doctor’s practices, clinics and
diagnostic labs has never been greater. The field is filled with opportunities for
development and career growth. EKG technicians use monitoring equipment to help
physicians test patients’ hearts, working in hospitals or clinics to provide direct patient
care. EKG techs can have a very dynamic working environment, which involves working
with patients from all types of backgrounds.

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN (KEY AREAS & TOPICS):

  • Detailed anatomy and physiology of the heart
  • Medical disease processes and terminology
  • Medical ethics and legal aspects of patient contact
  • Electrocardiography and echocardiography
  • An introduction to the components, function and proper use of the EKG machine
  • The normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement
  • Preparing a patient for a 12-lead EKG
  • 12-lead placement, interpretation and troubleshooting

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

  • Individuals interested in becoming a certified EKG technician
  • Anyone interested in working in health care

Must be 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED.

Class Name

This comprehensive 50 hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT – Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam and other National Certification Exams. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography and stress testing. Additionally, students will practice with EKGequipment and perform hands on labs including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12‐lead placement and other clinical practices.
